Math Proficiency Test is reinstated as a certification requirement

On May 30, 2024, the Minister of Education announced that the Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) will be reinstated as a certification requirement for teachers in Ontario as of February 1, 2025. 

The test will be developed and administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) and successful results will be sent directly to the Ontario College of Teachers (College).

  • For information on why the MPT is being reintroduced, please contact the Ministry of Education.
  • For information on the development of the test, when the test will be offered, and the format of the test, please contact EQAO.

The College will work with the Ministry of Education, EQAO and other education sector partners and will share more information on the MPT as a certification requirement as it becomes available. Please continue to check the College website for updates.
