Public Attendance at Council Meetings

The College welcomes members of the public and the media to observe our Council meetings. If you’d like to attend, please follow the guidelines below.

How to attend

Find the meeting you’d like to attend and follow the prompts to register. Registration links will be available one month before each meeting. Ten days before the meeting, we’ll email you a link to the public Council information package.

Note:

  • Some Council documents are confidential and will not be included in the public package.
  • We try to accommodate everyone who wants to attend a meeting. However, priority will be given to those who registered in advance.
  • The College is wheelchair accessible and gender-neutral washrooms are available. Find out more about our accessibility policies.

Observer status

Members of the public and the media are given observer status only. Observers are restricted from participating in Council deliberations, and from photographing or recording the proceedings

Note: breaks are scheduled throughout the meeting and water is provided throughout the day.

The day of a meeting

You’ll need to do the following after you arrive:

  • sign in at the reception desk
  • wear a visitor’s tag that you can get at registration
  • enter through the designated doors of the Council chamber, and only during breaks in proceedings
  • remain seated in the visitor’s gallery
  • turn off or silence all cell phones or other devices
  • refrain from talking, whispering or any other disruptive behaviour
  • stay on public access floors only
  • exit the chamber after adjournment, before the debriefing session
  • return your visitor’s badge to reception before leaving.

Individuals who don’t comply with these requirements may be asked to leave.

Media contact

If you are a member of the media and require assistance, contact College Communications at 416.961.8800 ext. 647.

Closed meetings

Council may restrict public access to meetings, in whole or in part, when:

  • financial or personal matters are being discussed
  • an individual involved in court proceedings may be prejudiced
  • someone’s safety may be jeopardized
  • personnel matters or property transactions are being discussed
  • litigation affecting the College is being discussed.

Before a closed session begins, you’ll be asked to leave the chamber. You can wait in the reception area until public sessions start again.
