Find a Teacher

Can I Teach in Ontario?

To teach in a publicly funded school in Ontario, you must be licensed by us. Before applying, we recommend taking our free online assessment to determine if you’ll meet the requirements.

You’ll be asked questions about your educational background and work experience (if applicable). This should take about 30 minutes.

Note: There is no option to save your progress. You must complete the questionnaire to receive your assessment.

To learn more about the requirements for certification, read the General Education Registration Guide or the Technological Education Registration Guide.

Teachers certified in Canada

If you are already certified to teach in another Canadian province, you don’t need to take this assessment. Learn how to transfer your teaching certification to Ontario.
