Program Change Decisions

Accredited teacher education programs are reviewed on a regular cycle to ensure that they continue to meet required regulatory requirements. When institutions intend to add to, or modify their accredited programs, they must notify the Accreditation Committee. There are three types of program changes:

  1. Minor changes that do not affect the character, duration or components of a program (e.g. program name change) are considered administrative changes.
  2. Changes to the character, duration or components of a program are considered substantial changes. The Accreditation Committee determines whether the program, as modified, continues to meet accreditation requirements.
  3. An addition to program consists of adding a new element to an accredited program, such as (i) an area of study, (ii) a language of instruction, or (iii) a specific component of teacher preparation described in legislation. An accreditation panel reviews program changes that would result in an addition to program, using a process similar to the one used for program accreditation renewals. The Accreditation Committee reviews the panel’s findings to decide whether the program, with the addition, qualifies for accreditation.

The Accreditation Committee has issued decisions for program changes submitted by the following institutions.
