Applications for College Council, Committees and Rosters Now Closed

October 01 2021

We asked, and members of both the teaching profession and the public answered – in unprecedented numbers. Thank you!

From August 16 to September 30, the College invited applications from dedicated and qualified individuals interested in serving on Council, committees and rosters. During that time, 648 Ontario Certified Teachers and members of the public submitted applications expressing their interest in helping govern the teaching profession in the province and supporting the well-being of more than two million students. That’s a significantly higher number than the 69 eligible nominees for the College’s 2018 Council election.

The application process for these positions is now closed. The College thanks all who applied.

Successful candidates will be notified by December 1, 2021. The new Council, committee and roster members will be announced publicly by December 23, 2021 on the College’s website. Terms of office will begin on January 1, 2022. Authority under the Act will transfer from the Transition Supervisory Officer (TSO) to Council and committees on February 1, 2022.

The recruitment is a part of the College’s legislated transition to a new governance structure that will streamline its operations, enabling it to operate more effectively and efficiently.

With more than 100 positions in diverse roles, individuals will serve on Council, committees, or rosters:

  • Council ensures that policies are established in accordance with the College’s objects as set out in the Ontario College of Teachers Act. Council members will also serve on the following subcommittees: Audit and Finance, Human Resources, and Selection and Nominating.
  • Committees perform the regulatory and statutory work of the College. Some committees, such as Accreditation and Discipline, require additional time to serve on adjudicative panels. Statutory committee chairs and vice-chairs also serve on the Adjudicative Body of Chairs.
  • Roster members participate on panels to decide on matters on behalf of a committee.
