College office granted environmental certification
January 06 2015
The Ontario College of Teachers’ office building at 101 Bloor St. West, Toronto, has been granted BOMA BESt Level 2 Certification. BOMA BESt®(Building Environmental Standards) is a national program launched in 2005 by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada) to address an industry need for realistic standards for energy and environmental performance of existing buildings based on accurate, independently verified information. To achieve Level 2 certification, a building must meet all of the BOMA Go Green Best Practices and achieve a score of 70 to 79 per cent on the GO Green Plus assessment.
A number of measures have been implemented at 101 Bloor St. West in recent years to reduce the building’s environmental footprint. These include the installation of high efficiency LED lighting and motion detectors, and the installation of low-flow washroom fixtures and fittings. In addition to its recycling program, the College office also recycles fluorescent lamps and holds an annual electronic waste recycling drive for tenants.
