Accreditation Committee Decision

Laurentian University – French-language Programs

French Language Program offered in Alternative Mode, January 21, 2004

In accordance with Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs, the Accreditation Committee, at its January 21, 2004 meeting, granted initial accreditation with a condition to the proposed French-language Consecutive Program of Professional Education Primary/ Junior offered in Alternative Mode at Laurentian University, for the period of two years (2006) or the period of time ending on the graduation of the second class of students enrolled in the program, whichever is the longer period of time, not to exceed three years (2007).

The condition on the grant of initial accreditation shall be that:

  • the practicum enables every student to participate in settings related to each division, Paragraph 9 (2) (3) Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs.

Initial accreditation with a condition was granted upon consideration of the recommendation in the Accreditation Panel Final Report that «all students, including those holding a letter of permission must be able to complete a practicum in each division during the normal term of the program» as per Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs, Paragraph 9 (2) (3).

Sufficient information was not provided to ensure that individuals working in schools on letters of permission would all be able to meet the regulatory requirements.

In making its decision the Committee considered:

  • the final report of the accreditation panel
  • the response of the School of Education of Laurentian University, dated December 9, 2003 to the panel’s draft report
  • regulatory requirements of Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs, and Regulation 184/97, Teachers’ Qualifications.
