Changes to College Council

At the College Council meeting on December 12, 2024, it was announced that Diana Miles will be stepping down from her role as Chair of Council, effective December 31, 2024. While Diana will be concluding her tenure as Chair, she will continue to serve as a valued member of Council.

Diana has served as the Chair of Council since February 1, 2022, and during her term, she has been a steadfast advocate for student well-being and a strong supporter of transformative change. She clearly demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of a governance model balanced equally between members of the profession and members of the public while she guided Council through significant milestones, including implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan and navigating major legislative changes, most significantly those introduced by the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act.

On behalf of everyone at the College, I extend my sincere thanks to Diana for her support and for her commitment to Ontario’s publicly funded education system.

At the same time, I am pleased to welcome Maria Vasanelli, OCT, as the incoming Chair of Council. Maria, who begins her term as Chair on January 1, 2025, is the director of education at the Superior North Catholic District School Board and has worked alongside Diana as a Council member since February 2022.

Her wealth of experience and commitment to student success has served Council well, and I look forward to working with her as she assumes her new role and we continue to advance the College’s mandate to serve the public interest by regulating the teaching profession to protect students.
