Accreditation of Additional Qualification Programs (In-service)

The College accredits in-service programs that lead to additional qualifications for teachers, principals and supervisory officers. All course providers must apply to the College for initial accreditation of in-service Additional Qualification programs.

Programs of Additional Qualification include:

• Additional Basic Qualifications (Schedule A & Schedule B)
• Additional Qualifications (Schedule C, Schedule D & Schedule E)
• the Principal's Development Course (PDC)
• the Principal's Qualification Program (PQP)
• the Supervisory Officer's Qualification Program (SOQP).

Providers of accredited in-service Additional Qualification programs must demonstrate that courses satisfy the legislative requirements outlined in Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs.

Providers apply to renew the accreditation of each course or program at least once every five years.

Program submissions are reviewed for specific requirements including:

• the application of theory in practice
• the appropriateness of the program's format and structure
• methods for assessing candidate achievement
• the qualifications of educators teaching the program
• the learning materials for the program
• the governance and accountability structures of the provider
• the commitment of the provider to continuous improvement and quality assurance.

As part of the accreditation process, the College reviews each provider's Additional Qualification programs for evidence that reflects:

• current Ontario curriculum, relevant legislation and government policy
• the Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession and the Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession
• the learning expectations and content from the College's most recent program guideline
• the minimum number of hours for course work has been met.
