Honouring future teachers

The College awards three scholarships annually. They acknowledge teacher candidates for their outstanding academic achievement and high level of preparedness for teacher education. Applications are accepted until June 30, 2017.

Strategies to inform your professional practice

Share your top strategies for communicating with parents, then see how your peers respond to that same question in the June 2017 issue of Professionally Speaking. This poll enables OCTs to share advice, opinions on educational topics related to professional practice.

We’re turning 20!

To commemorate 20 years of self-regulation in the public interest, the College is planning a number of events and activities. For example, the College is participating in the 2017 Doors Open Toronto, a free annual event. Come take a tour of our building May 27-28.

Enhancing student protection in the public interest

The Protecting Students Act, passed in December, resulted in various changes to the discipline process. Reinstatement hearings, for example, will now be public unless the first hearing related to a specific case was closed to the public or if there are exceptional circumstances that require a closed hearing.

Council makes election process easier

At its March meeting, Council approved changes to regulation that will make the election and nomination process for Council much easier for future elections. Most notably, these changes will mean a streamlined ballot allowing members to vote for candidates in the regions where they work.

Ongoing learning is at the heart of teacher professionalism. Look for the March issue of Professionally Speaking. It has a supplement highlighting the latest Additional Qualification courses (AQ) and new providers available to you.

Are you enrolling in an AQ course? The College's Margaret Wilson Library has extensive materials to support your practice. Go online , review our catalogue and have materials mailed to you. Then, mail them back free of charge using an enclosed pre-paid label!

Pitch in to help

Help new teachers while you drive, pitch and putt. The College’s annual golf event to support teacher education scholarships occurs on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Donate and play.
